Traffic management in Raymond Terrace
The Pacific Highway bypass around Raymond Terrace and the Hunter River bridge crossings together form the principal freight and commuter corridor for the Lower Hunter, and any works on these structures or their approaches require detailed traffic management to protect a route with limited alternative crossings. Sturgeon Street and the older town-centre network continue to carry significant local traffic, and utility or development works in the CBD require permits from Port Stephens Council alongside Transport for NSW approvals for impacts on the Highway corridor. The growing Chisholm and Thornton residential areas to the south are generating increased construction traffic on connecting roads that link back through the Raymond Terrace network.
